spike-goes-in-for-the-kilt3

Gary Spike O Sullivan was the pride of Cork and Ireland as he landed a knockout blow to floor Melvin Beracourt and win the WBA NABA title in Boston a few weeks ago.Spike caused a sensation when he came out into the ring wearing a kilt supplied by none other than ours truly Tom Murphy Menswear. When he came into the shop he was kitted out in the full tartan works by Dermot who is our resident kilt expert.Between the two of them it was decided that the pride of Ireland was the most appropriate kilt for Spike to wear for the title fight(Only Dermot and Spike were privy to the fact that the kilt would actually be worn in the fight itself!).There was a buzz of excitement in the shop the day Spike came in and he was incredibly generous in posing for photographs with customers and staff alike. As to the fight itself the champ didn’t take long to despatch Beracourt-some four minutes to pulverise the hapless Central American and stake his claim to fight one of the big boys in world boxing. It is starting to look increasingly likely that Spike will be fighting either Andy Lee,Goloshny or Chis Eubank junior next.

Congratulations to the boys from Cork
who were awarded the All-Star status at Friday nights ceremony. It
was a marvellous year for Cork Football and we were delighted and privileged to kit out our heroes Aidan Walsh and Paudie Kissane in their tuxedos for the night.
We chose a Van Kollem black tuxedo for both of the lads as this is a slim fit tux that suits the athletic figure. Aidan teamed his tux up with a black studded shirt and black bow tie while Paudie donned a simple wing collar for that traditional touch of class.
Both lads were kind enough to sign autographs for my son and I have to say their modesty in accepting praise from all the intrigued customers in the shop at the time was greater to see.
We were delighted to see Aidan going on to win the young player of the year award and we wish them both the best of luck for next season.

We want to wish the best of luck to the Cork Footballers for their big game on Sunday and express our gratitude to the members of the panel that have been coming into the store over the years.
We took great pleasure in kitting the lads out in their clothes for the All-Ireland finals in recent years. Having come so close in recent seasons, all of us have a gut feeling this could be the year to bring the Sam McGuire cup back to Leeside.

Over the years a lot of the lads have been into us to get kitted out for their wedding gear. Recently, the talisman and captain, Graham Canty honoured us by posing for this photograph in his designer Wilvorst wedding suit. Hopefully he will be fit for the game on Sunday and the Dubs. Even dressed up and getting ready for his big occasion in his wedding suit, this guy looks like he will take no prisoners.

COME ON THE REBELS

For the past couple of seasons the Munster rugby squad has worn tailored suits manufactured by Magee of Donegal. Our tailoring team at Tom Murphys have been responsible for measuring the players for their tailored suits and helping in the selection of the appropriate styles and fabrics. We would like to think that our efforts combined with those of Magees of Donegal have ensured that the men in red have always looked their best off the field of play.

Just last week Michael, the longest serving member of our team made the second of his recent trips to Musgrave Park to suit up the Munster rugby panel for the forthcoming season. Armed with his measuring tape and measurement books he set about the task of suiting and booting Messieurs O Connell and co.

As usual there was great banter and craic as Michael went about the task of measuring these man mountains. The running joke was that the measurement tape might not be big enough to go around the massive torsos of Donnacha, Paul and Dennis Leamy and two tapes would have to be joined together. Current squad member and former Tom Murphys employee Tom Gleeson kept a watchful eye on the proceedings and also had a good slag off Michael.
